Claims by former Federal workers totaled nearly 6,700 in the week, a decrease of more than 8,000 from the prior week. Though the 4-week average for initial claims is up 4,500 to 224,750 for the second rise in a row, the level is tracking only several thousand higher than mid-January which is an early and favorable indication for February's labor conditions.
